Blogger is acting up??

The last two days, I haven't been able to access my blog. Whenever I make my way over here, my web browser crashes. Safari and Firefox. Maybe it's hacked? Maybe not? I'm not sure.

I think it's time I create a new and improved blog. Step outside the realm of Blogger's safety zone and design my own site. Here it goes. News to follow in a bit.

I am waiting out a very slow week for Friday to arrive.

On Friday, I'm a camera operator for a three day conference downtown and I'm refinishing a dresser (sand, paint) in our parking lot. But the best thing this Friday brings, is CHOKE.

Anna and I watched the first season of Gossip Girl in three days.

For those who have seen The O.C.. And if you are annoyed with Marisa when she encounters conflict and her reaction is to say literally one line of dialogue then exit the scene, do I have a show for you. Gossip Girl.

Sarina is the Marisa character of Gossip Girl. And it's a relief when you see her use logic to confront most of the conflict in her life. Conflict with her past and with her boyfriend Dan.

Season One doesn't end like the first two season of The O.C.. However, the eighth or ninth episode of GG is OC season two quality. It's amazing. And we love it.

My 2 cents regarding the following news clip posted below.

I would support this if similar actions were to take place in the US of A. I would like to see less films promoting and romanticizing the use of destructive violence.

Movie Posters Banned.

Posters advertising Angelina Jolie's latest film "Wanted" have been banned in Britain for allegedly promoting violence.

The images that accompany this summer's action thriller show the Hollywood beauty lying across the bonnet of a car, grasping a gun.

The posters also show the film's other star - Scottish actor James McAvoy- with a weapon in each hand and an accompanying slogan which suggested his life is better since he became an assassin.

And now Britain's Advertising Standards Authority has banned the adverts after receiving a spate of complaints about the images.

The youth of America, or hopefully just in the Twin Cities, have expressed their freedom of speech..er.. freedom of violence at an anti-war, anti-politics rally/riot a few miles from my house at the RNC. I believe that was the purpose of the riots. From what I've read in the paper, and from coworkers at my Starbucks in the MOA who attend said riots. Jeesh, way to use destructive violence to voice your opinion against terrorist who use similar violence.

How is this not counter-productive. You tell me.

I cannot support anything socially that aims to divide or bring disunity among people. Wrongs have been done, and they will continue to happen and what is important to understand is not to react to these things with violence and anger. For I see such actions as foolishness.

And I have been foolish for too long.

City Rain Web Site Slowly Coming Along

Due to the the demand of video editing and short deadlines I've received this summer/fall, I haven't had adequate time to build my website. During breaks at work and when my video projects are rendering and compressing, I've spent some time on several different designs. I want a website that looks and feels "organic." It needs to be simple and quiet.

The site should be up and running within a month from now. Kevin, my brother, will write the html and I'll finish designing the artwork and graphics. If you go there now, you'll see the direction we're heading towards.

My beautiful wife and I have been in Billings, MT for the last eight days. It feels very good to be home and on my own keyboard.

I've listen to nothing but The Velvet Underground's self titled record all week. And it's good. Almost perfect. "Jesus", "Beginning To See The Light" and "Some Kinda Love" are a few of my favorites.

Vegetarians who wear leather products are funny.

The Pineapple Express is the 2nd best film this year.

Tropic Thunder was alright. Robertdowneyjr was remarkable. Tom cruise gave is third best performance to date.

8lb baby born at 8:08am on 08/08. I don't see how amazing this is. If you think of all the babies born every day, including on the 8th of this month, It would be expected one or two babies are born at 8 in the morning. But whatever.

New Kids On The Block was ridiculicious. And sweet. A crowd of 2000 plus gathered right outside my Starbucks to see NKOTB perform three tracks off their new album. And I'm pretty sure over half of the crowd came in their pants.

We watched Gossip Girl a few days ago, and it was awesome! I know what I'm doing all fall long.

I woke up this morning and thought Beck sounded good all of a sudden. And it does. It sounds real good.

As A Parent: Part One

I vow not to bring my children to "Toddler Tuesdays" at the Mall Of America.

I vow not to feed my children fast food shit more then twice in a 6 month period. (Maybe even in a year)

I will not turn the TV off, but will simple read books myself and then leave books all over the house for my kids to follow.

And one of those books will not be Pilgrim's Progress. (Maybe not. I don't know yet)

We will allow one wall for the children to draw and marker on.

We will not have more then three family pictures up at once. (A new one goes up, an old one comes down) (Then into storage)

Weekly trips to art shows and museums are a must.

And I doubt we will watch much Hitchcock.

However, re-runs of Miley Cyrus will be considered classic viewing and might throw that on every once-in-awhile.

The Beatles are over-rated, and I hope my kids know that.

Where Was I?...I Was Right Here. Where Were You?

I have seen The Dark Knight twice now. Ready to go a third time with Anna in a few days.

Alright, honest opinion. The over all film was just ok. Though what makes this film great for me is the Joker and the screenplay. The screenplay is solid. Jonathan and Christopher did an excellent job developing the plot around. And for the record, the Joker is easily in my top 3 favorite roles of all time.

If there will be a third Batman film, whoever the villain will be, will have quite the shoes to fill. I find it hard for a villain to top Ledger's skills as the Joker. Unless that villain is an oil prospector played by Daniel Day-Lewis, I don't see it happening.

The score felt like it came out of a Kubrick film. One of my favorite scenes is the one pictured below. The Joker sticks his head out of the window, smiles, brushes his hair back and closes his eyes. And during this scene, eerie violins are heard.

And if you haven't caught it yet, The Dark Knight holds the #1 slot on IMDB top 250. It is currently putting The Godfather to shame.

We Are Inline As I Type This Title

Anna and I are at the Mall Of America waiting outside the AT&T store located on the third level. I'm stealing wireless from someone next to me who brought his MacAir.

There are about 40 people inline, and the line is growing rapidly. The store has 45 minutes to open and I heard AT&T scrubs are pulling all-dayers. That sucks. Man, I could barely handle 8 hours at the Starbucks serving 900 calorie saturated beverages to mall rats and the average 5 member family on vacation from Nebraska.

I've Got 99 Problems and Post-Audio Engineering Is One

I've been working long days the last two months. I'm currently working on a large video editing job for The Gospel Coalition out of Chicago. This is a great job, that requires long hours, and tedious and redundant actions. I'm really good at this type of work. It's challenging, but it's nothing that I cannot handle.

I view video editing like a crossword puzzle, or a chess match or a sudoku puzzle. Video editing consists of math, and numbers, and prisons and war. A lot of war. Everything is chaotic before and in the end, it should fit and flow nicely. I like piecing together problems and watching them evolve into what they were made for.

It's also challenging. A video editor is very limited. Limited in the sense that, he has only so many options to work with versus a Director of Photography or a Film Director has. They have creative control and are able to move around freely. An editor is only able to make decisions within a contained environment. A great (not good, but great) editor will take all of the decisions the "creatives" made, and through a process of elimination, will arrive with a final product that all those above him were shooting and dreaming for.

This is my job. This is my aim.

However, repairing audio is a different story. I don't feel like getting into it right now, but It sucks and I don't care for it. Though, the only reason why I don't like repairing audio is that, I don't know how to "properly" repair audio. It's like doing algebra. If you know algebra, then it's easy and enjoyable. But put a high-school dropout in-front of some basic algebra SAT questions and he'd rather be emptying out septic tanks at 8 dollars an hour 40 hours a week.

I'll just say this to those who are about to record audio. Always record your vocals/speaking head around -12 to -6dB. This will make whoever is cleaning up that audio several hours/days/weeks. Seriously.

Weekly Trips to US Bank

When I open at the Starbucks, we take our deposits to US Bank. And since I'm slaving away at the Mall Of America now, we drive half a mile to their headquarters.

Here, I think I've witness one of the most inefficient banks of my time. At their headquarters, I've only seen two tellers working the front. These tellers are on the slow side, they always have trouble with the cash counter and they seem to misplace their keys, when I'm there.

Two things. Have you seen their pamphlets? The ones aimed to attract future Americans in banking their savings with them. They have this "5-Star" thing going on right now, and they state that "Life Is Full Of Stars. Which Star Are You". WTF! does that have to do with banking? "Which 5 Star Are You". Ridiculous.

And on that same pamphlet, near the bottom, in print is, "Five Silver Stars, Five Gold Stars and Five Platinum Stars". I look at the teller and hold up the pamphlet and say,

"Oh, I didn't know US Bank was a 15 star bank. That's quit the status. Most banks overachieve for just 5 stars, but you guys really aim high."

Thinking my joke was somewhat funny, I walked away.

Come July 11th, you will find me standing in line out front of the Apple store waiting to blow 500 hard earned US tax dollars. That's right, Anna and I are both buying iPhones. This I think, might be the 2nd most enjoyable purchase I will have ever made. (1st is scoring Radiohead tickets this last May!)

3G man. 3G. GPS and all. Half the price, twice as fast and 8 more Gigs.

I will dedicate 8 Gigs to music and the other 7.46 gigs to work related junk.

For you horror lovers out there, Alexandre Aja has a new film Mirrors, coming out this August. If you don't remember, he made High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes remake. Both of which are great. I have the High Tension poster in my office.

The Diving Bell and The Butterfly is beautiful and amazing! My guess is their script was actually a 120 page poem and they photographed said poem. I think this was the first film in 5 years to bring tears to my eyes. Watch and weep.

Tomorrow, at 10 am Central Time, I will proceed to purchase my first rap album. All week I've been building up for this moment. In the past, I've picked up Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco, but I consider their stuff more pop then rap. No, I'm actually talking about a real rap album. With my $2 off coupon at the Electric Fetus, I will pick up Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III. And I will listen to that Lolli Pop song all summer long. Which is stuck in my head.

Since Friday morning, I've been digesting Feed The Animals. Slowly, savoring every hot moment. This is the album of the Summer. I'm predicting it to be my 2nd favorite album of the year. We'll see.

Seriously, you can buy Feed The Animals online for $0. You pay what you want. However, If you pay 10 bones or more they will mail you a physical CD when released in stores. You win both ways. You can buy it HERE! And you need a paypal account. Which is so easy to set up I think my 8 year old brother has one.

So leading up to Feed The Animals, I've been trying to predict what Greg would sample. This is what I thought I might hear:

at 2:49, Lil Wayne & Birdman mashed over Rage Against the Machine. Rage fades away and Lil Wayne continues to rap with the beat transforming into Timbaland and Aaliyah then all of this shifts into Sinead O'Connor singing "Nothing Compares 2 U" while T.I. beats playing in the background.

2- "Shut the Club Down"
at 1:10 Aphex Twin "Girl/Boy Song" mashed with Jagged Edge and Rich Boy. Then the song takes a turn and samples Rod Stewart and Yung Berg and Ahmad. The Cool Kids end this track with "Gold and a Paper", which already samples N.W.A.

3- "Still Here"
:34 BLACKstreet + Michael Jackson + Kanye West (Flashing Lights) turns into "15 Steps" by RADIOHEAD! Then to melt your face off, it transitions into The Band's "The Weight". (Bob Dylan's band.)

4- "Set It Off"
:20 (who would have thought that Jay-Z and Radiohead together would sound so stinkin good! Shit.) "Paranoid Android" with Roc Boys by Jay-Z is amazing.

5- "No Pause"
2:28 I'm willing to bet this is the best part of the album. Yael Naim (i have no idea who this is, but it sounds good!), with Eminem. That's it. Two samples and it's heaven.

6- "Let Me See You" (this track has two highlights)
2:15, Rick Ross "Hustlin" + Justin T. "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows" + David Bowie "Rebel Rebel". This is great.
2:58, M.I.A. + The Cranberries "Dreams". This is an amazing part.

Feed The Animals starts with UGK & Outkast - "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)" and ends with the same song. However, at the end, it finishes off perfectly with a sample of Journey's "Faithfully".

I'm predicting "Best New Music" from PitchForkMedia.com with an 8.6 rating. I'm guessing they're saving this review and will release at the same time with a review from the new Coldplay record. (Which I'm predicting will receive a 6.9 rating. Which is high for a Coldplay album)

Happiness Is A RADIOHEAD Show

What I am about to write, might sound ridiculous and over-the-top hype. But this is how I feel after the show.

I was born for like three things, and going to this show was one of those reasons.
It was incredible! Like entering into glory incredible. First, Liars opened the show, and they were totally sweet. Live, they kinda sound like The Jesus & Mary Chain. Which was nice. They played an 8 - 10 song set and it was perfect for what was to come.

Ab0ut 30 minutes from Liars leaving stage to Radiohead entering. This wait time felt surreal. It felt like a dream and I was going to wake up when the lights go out. Before Radiohead came on stage, everyone was still sitting down. And no way in hell will I be sitting down when they come out. If this is the only Radiohead show I'll ever see I will be standing up. So I stood up. Waiting and waiting and waiting. I didn't care, I was ready.

Jack and Cokes' were priced over 12 dollars and a 12oz beer started at 8 dollars. I brought my flask of whiskey and bought a diet Coke and had my myself a 4 dollar cocktail. I had my cigarettes, my drink, my vinyl record of In Raindbows sits at my feet and I'm standing in my Charcoal blazer waiting in anticipation for the lights to go down and the first few notes to be played.

Oh man Oh man Oh man Radiohead Radiohead Oh man Oh man...!!

The lights go out. Wait a minute everyone. The lights just went out. That means, OMG they're coming on stage! I'm pissing in my pants, I clap and cheer. This isn't happening. This isn't happening. OMG that's Ed! Ed is on stage. And, that's Colin. There's Phil! And where's Johnny? Johnny & Thom come out last and very slowly do they walk to their places and kinda look at the crowd and pace back and forth. The crowd is going crazy! I'm going crazy. Thom is like 30ish feet from me and he's sexy as ever.

Red lights appear and Phil lays down a drum beat. I knew it! I knew they would play this song first. For the next 3 minutes, Thom sings to the crowd (me) Your All I Need,Your All I Need. Thom takes off his blazer and they play "Jigsaw Falling Into Place". Next they play "Airbag" then "15 Steps" then "Nude (Big Ideas)". Holy shit "Nude" live is more amazing then like watching "There Will Be Blood" for the first time then squared to the 10th power. Your spine will split in half.

From Hail To The Thief they played, "The Gloaming", There, There", and "Myxomatosis"! "Myxomatosis" is crazy crazy. Thom dances out and has pretty much created a dance that could be cooler then any moves from Ian Curtis.

They probably played 18 songs, then left, then came back for an encore. They played 6 more songs. Including, "My Iron Lung", "Fake Plastic Trees", "Videotape" and "Optimistic". They left and came back for a second encore! They played 3 more songs. Including, "Pyramid Song"!! and "Paranoid Android"!

The entire band was happy. Thom smiled through the whole show and Johnny cracked a joke middle through the set. Ed played more then a guitar, he played drum machines, peddles, and other various electronic devices.

In no way am I disappointed with the show, but I was really hoping to hear "The National Anthem."
I have a lot of pictures and some video from the show that I will post on Sunday. Right now, I'm still in awe of a Radiohead show experience. Half of my bucket list is complete.

Rainy Day and the Walker Art Center

Went to the Walker Art Center today with my wife and friends from Billings, Ryan and Amanda. This is my second visit to the Walker. The first was a few years back when they had multiple prints of Chuck Close and Andy Warhol. This visit was a little disappointing. They had one Close print, one Warhol print and a lot of modern art from the last 60 years. It didn't impress me much. However...we're ready to leave when Anna pointed me towards a wall and said, "Isn't that the guy you like"?
She was right. As far as I can tell, Walker had two new Crewdson prints.On their walls.Both breathtaking.

I'm sitting here, watching a tutorial on Apple's Color and what do I see walk/run right next to my arm on my desk...something. I'm not sure what it is, but it was huge and gross looking and I can't find it. I'm describing it to Anna and I told her it looked like something between these two things. A scorpion and a large golden spider.

That's right, I have a scorpspider in my office. Probably laying eggs somewhere. That's why it was moving so quick, it was egg laying time.

Last night Anna and I went to Hot Chip, and it was all that I wanted it to be.
They played a 12 to 15 song set including a cover of New Order's "Temptation" in the middle of playing "No Fit State". And they played all their songs like 2 minutes longer with crazy extended dance beats. The last song was a cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U". Which was breathless.

Free Blood was the opening act. They were good and crazy. What I'd expect from a band who opens for Hot Chip. And the only merch they offered was organic soap in the shape of a human heart. This is probably the most biblical item I've ever seen at a show. Going home and taking a shower with soap in the form of a heart. A heart represents blood, blood which covers many.
